The eighty University Seminars at Columbia University offer sustained intellectual interaction across departmental boundaries. Professors and other experts from Columbia and elsewhere may join Seminars if invited as speakers, guests, or members. There is no charge and no remuneration.
The Seminars meet monthly during the academic year most often in the Faculty House when it is open. The list of current seminars includes a seminar description, and the names and email addresses of each seminar's chair and rapporteur. To request further information about attending a seminar please contact the respective Chair by email. The Chair will decide whether an invitation is appropriate. You may also reach the University Seminars Staff with more general questions.
Our seminars will be meeting in a variety of venues this year until the Faculty House reopens. We are eager to ensure that all seminar members, associates, speakers, and guests are to attend seminar meetings, regardless of disability. While Columbia University works to make all venues on campus fully accessible, some are not.
Columbia University encourages persons with disabilities to participate
in its programs and activities. University Seminar participants with
disabilities who anticipate needing accommodations or who have
questions about physical access may contact the Office of Disability
Services at 212-854-2388 or disability@columbia.edu. Disability
accommodations, including sign-language interpreters, are available on
request.
Please let us know if you have mobility, hearing, or visual disabilities. We can make arrangements to relocate seminars to accessible locations in the event that they are scheduled for a venue that is not fully accessible.
Requests for accommodations must be made two weeks in advance. On campus, Seminar participants with disabilities should alert a Public Safety Officer if they need assistance accessing campus.
