Robert Hung, M.Eng. Dedham Group - December 12, 2012

Robert Hung gave a talk about his career path from an undergraduate engineer to becoming a partner in a life science consulting firm. Various consulting careers in the life science industry and qualities that companies look for in a successful employee were also discussed. This event was attended by over 30 people.

Columbia Engineering Experience Lab Visit- October 15, 2012

Our chapter over 20 high-ability underrepresented students of interested in Columbia Engineering. We introduced them to the exciting field of regenerative tissue engineering and the research that is current going on in Columbia BME. Demonstrations were given on scaffold fabrication and the use of bioreactors in tissue engineering.

2nd Annual Biotechnology Networking Social- February 27, 2012

Our chapter hosted a networking social for graduate students interested in working in industry. This event was held in Lerner Hall at Columbia University on February 27, 2012. Company representatives from LifeCell, Celgene, Organovo, Nature Publishing Group and Insight attended in addition to over 60 graduate students/postdocs.

2nd USA Science & Engineering Festival Expo - April 28-29, 2012

Our student chapter is proud to be an Official Partner of the 2nd USA Science & Engineering Festival to be held in the greater Washington DC area in April 2012. Our chapter hosted a networking social for graduate students interested in working in industry. This event was held in the Low Library Rotunda at Columbia University on Monday, February 21, 2011 from 6 - 8 PM with 7 company representatives and over 60 graduate students/postdocs in attendance.

2010 Northeast Biomaterials Day - March 27th, 2010
The Columbia Unviersity chapter is proud to host a 2010 Biomaterials Day in conjunction with the Northeast Bioengineering Conference. Visit the Biomaterials Day section of the website for more information.

"Opportunities in Industry and the Academic Transition" - November 5th, 2009
The CU SFB chapter hosted Jeffrey P. Spalazzi, Ph.D. for an discussion which focused on:

1. Challenges in moving from academia to industry

2. Opportunities in industry

3. What do companies look for in candidates from academia?

"Bioengineering Lab Tours" (in collaboration with CTICE) - October 24th, 2009
Members of the chapter hosted prospective Columbia undergratuade students and provided them with an overview of biomaterials research.
