Becoming a Federal Work-Study Employer

Departments within Columbia University may qualify as FWS employers if they have been given a FWS allocation by the Office of the Provost. This allocation represents the 100% dollar amount given to your department and the total amount students working in your department may earn. A FWS account will be charged the 60% share of students’ wages. The employer’s departmental account will be charged the employer’s 40% share of students’ wages.

Before hiring a FWS-eligible student, the department must complete and submit a Signature Authorization form (PDF) to the FWS Office. This form requests information regarding the clock number, department name, department number, department address, department check sequence code, departmental administrator, and the pay contact as well as the UNI of those individuals authorized to sign the timesheets.

Creating and Posting Job Positions

Departments that have received a budget allocation from the Office of the Provost may create and post job listings in the Federal Work-Study online system.  To begin, request log in permission.
