Yanfei Sun, PhD,
University of Chicago, Department of Sociology
Yanfei Sun received her PhD in sociology from University of Chicago in 2010. Her dissertation, titled Religion in Sociopolitical Context: The Reconfiguration of Religious Ecology in Post-Mao China, analyzes how the interaction between religion and the sociopolitical context has shaped the growth dynamics of the three major religious forces in Chinese society, namely popular religion, Buddhism and Protestant Christianity and how their differential growth has led to the reconfiguration of China’s religious ecology in the past three decades.
Yanfei is currently developing her dissertation into a book.
She will teach “Religions in Chinese Society” in the fall semester.
