Dale Shuger

Assistant Professor

Dale Shuger received her Ph.D. from New York University in 2008. She works on early modern Spanish history and literature, with particular interest in Inquisition studies and the interaction of popular and institutional discourse and culture. She is currently working on two book projects: one which examines madness in early modern Spain in archival accounts and in Don Quijote, and another which looks at the development of the Spanish Inquisition's approach to various forms of "unreason" from the 15th to the 19th centuries. She is delighted to be joining the Columbia faculty.
