Helene de Aguilar
Lecturer in Language (Spanish)
Helene J.F. de Aguilar is a departmental "old-timer." She completed her undergraduate studies at Columbia and her M.A. in history at New York University, and returned to Columbia as a Faculty Fellow for her doctorate in literature and has remained here for most of her teaching career.
She is the recipient of the Wilson and Fulbright fellowships and has held a Mellon grant for research in the humanities. A regular contributor to Parnassus: Poetry in Review, she writes mainly about poetry but loves many other subjects. She greatly enjoys language teaching and enlivens the grammar by singing to her students obscure—and usually mournful—Renaissance ballads. She looks forward to having you in class!
