Ruth Borgman
Lecturer in Language (Spanish)
Ruth E. Borgman received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Latin American Studies from the University of Puerto Rico and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, respectively. At Columbia, besides teaching language courses, she has developed pedagogically innovative content-based Spanish courses: "Immersion Course on Contemporary Mexico," "Mexican Identities and Societies," and "Prehispanic Societies" as well as a newly-developed writing course on "Mexico: Myths and Realities."
With a grant from the U.S.-Mexico Fund for Culture, Prof. Borgman organized three colloquia on “Mexican Intellectuals of the 20th Century”, for which she continues to do research. In various NEH-funded summer institutes, she has imparted courses to K-12 teachers who are developing curricular units in which specific content areas inform language pedagogy.
