
Ricardo Gualda
Lecturer in Language
Ricardo Gualda joined Columbia in fall 2008. He received his B.A. in Portuguese and his M.A. in Journalism from the University of São Paulo. His Ph.D. in Spanish Linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin focuses on the discourse of Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez. His areas of interest are Discourse Analysis, Semiotics, Media Studies, and Second Language Acquisition.
Ricardo is fluent in several languages and starting teaching foreign languages in 1989. Before becoming a scholar he worked as a journalist for O Estado de SÃo Paulo and the Financial Times Deutschland, among many other publications. He also worked as a volunteer with the Kayapo in the Brazilian Amazon and the United Farmworkers of America.
