It's that time of year again for our annual SSA board elections. Thank you all for your continued support at events, and we hope that you enjoyed attending them as much as we did organising them! We'll be electing our new President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Webmaster, and two new positions: Executive Committee Members. For more information, just come to the elections. There'll be cookies and refreshments for all!
After that, there'll be a private screening of Talking Cock, a controversial Singapore film that is rarely shown in Singapore since its distribution is subversively suppressed.
Like talking cock? Like talking cock about Singapore? Like www.talkingcock.com? Want to talk cock about www.talkingcock.com talking cock about Singapore? Come check out a fun SSA event this Saturday! We've invited Colin Goh and Joyceln Woo, founding members of you-know-which website, Singapore's most popular satirical website. It'll be a great opportunity to hear their perspectives as Singaporeans skating on the thin OB marker between "satirical" and "political" as well as their views on Singlish and censorship. If you're lucky, you'll also get to hear and see clips from "Talking Cock: The Movie."
And if you really need more convincing, the talk will be followed by food catered from Nyonya...now you know you want to come, and you also want to invite those friends, classmates and floormates who keep asking you if it's true that you get flogged in public for chewing gum in Singapore.
Come see yet another made-in-Singapore film, albeit one without a political agenda and isn't even trying to be a film "about Singapore" - if you can spot any allegories or symbolism, we'll buy you a drink. Or maybe just refill your plastic cup.
At any rate, don't miss this opportunity to enjoy a good movie, munch on pizza and celebrate the arrival of the weekend!
Happy Lunar New Year! Come join us for a night of Southeast Asian food with delicacies such as Kway Teow, Chicken Rice, Satay and much more! The fun starts at 7pm at the Lerner Hall Jed D. Satow room and ends only when you say so!
We are showing the movie "I Not Stupid", starring Jack Neo and Xiang Yun (Mandarin/Singlish/dialects with English subtitles) at the Lerner Hall East Ramp Lounge today at 5.30pm.
Synopsis: "A Singapore-made movie, I NOT STUPID is a satirical comedy which will make you laugh and cry almost at the same time. It portrays the struggles of three young children and their families in pursuit of academic excellence in a highly competitive society. The parents are equally challenged in the rat race, taking their own "exams" to survive in the modern society." - Raintree Pictures

Social Security Number ApplicationThe ISSO is once again doing Social Security Number Applications. This number is required for anyone who wishes to be employed in the United States. The SSN is necessary for filing tax forms, which all students in F and J status must do. It is also required for credit checks (ie. for your credit card application, cellphone subscription, etc). Most importantly, it is normally used as an identification. Apply for it, if you don't already have it. Go for the sessions by ISSO, they make it much more convenient.
