Rogerio M. Pinto to be Honored by Latino Social Work Task Force in New York

New York, NY - Dr. Rogério M. Pinto, Brazilian-born, associate professor at the Columbia University School of Social Work, was selected by the Latino Social Work Task Force (NASW- New York City Chapter) to be honored at the 7th Annual Dinner Awards. The event honors individuals for their leadership and contributions made on behalf of the Latino community.

Dr. Pinto specializes in Community-Based Participatory Research and has done most of his teaching and research in the United States and Brazil.  For more than a decade, Dr. Pinto has worked as a social work practitioner with immigrants and ethnic and racial minority individuals, groups, and families living in New York City as well as with community representatives drawn from community organizations. He has conducted community-wide needs and resources assessments, program evaluations, and efforts to build the capacity of community-based organizations. As a clinical social worker, he has implemented HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment programs and provided mental health services for Portuguese and Spanish speaking youth, adults and families. In 2007, he was funded by the National Institute of Mental Health to examine factors that facilitate researchers’ collaborations with HIV service providers, and to develop evidence-based models of collaboration that can be tested and replicated.  Dr. Pinto is currently conducting a research project in Brazil to study the role of community-health workers in the Brazil national Family Health Program in preventing HIV/AIDS.

The Latino Social Work Task Force 7th Annual Dinner Award will be held on March 10, 2011 at The Manhattan Penthouse.
