Career Counseling
Students can make a 30 minute career counseling appointment to discuss a variety of career topics including:
Résumé and cover letter critiques
Bring in hard copies of your job search documents to receive constructive feedback on marketing yourself effectively.
Interview preparation
Share your interview experiences and discuss the interview process- including the various types of interviews, effective preparation techniques, typical questions, and interview attire.
Mock interviews
Practice interviewing and receive formal feedback on your interview skills. Students are recommended to schedule this following an interview preparation appointment. The mock interview can be recorded using a web cam and played back during the review process.
Networking strategies
Discuss how to network effectively and design a strategy for cultivating professional connections. Networking skills are also discussed during the Taking the Work Out of Networking workshop.
Salary negotiation
Learn the art of salary negotiation. During an individual appointment, we can discuss your unique situation. The general techniques and material is also covered in the Seal the Deal workshop.
Job and summer internship search
Develop an individualized job or internship search strategy by discussing the process and roadblocks during an appointment. It is recommended you also bring in drafts of your job search documents (résumé, cover letter, CV, etc.).
Career options and decision-making
Discuss your professional options and ways to utilize your unique skills and interests in your career. This traditional career counseling session will help you clarify your professional goals and develop a plan to reach them.
