Ann Burack-Weiss
Adjunct Associate Professor

Ann Burack-Weiss teaches Life Histories at the Columbia University School of Social Work (CUSSW). She received her DSW from CUSSW in 1990 and her MS from Columbia in 1971.

Dr. Burack-Weiss has taught courses at CUSSW in direct practice, clinical practice, practice with the aging, practice in the AIDS epidemic, and intergenerational family practice since 1977. She also teaches the seminar in field instruction and the advanced seminar in field instruction.

Formerly the Assistant Director of Social Services at Jewish Home and Hospital and a long-time volunteer clinician at the Gay Men's Health Crisis, her primary professional interests are in practice with chronically ill and disabled clients and their families. As a consultant to public and voluntary agencies, Dr. Burack-Weiss specializes in staff training and development. She has co-authored three books, and authored numerous book chapters and journal articles. She is currently writing a book on memoirs of family caregiving for Columbia University Press.

Dr. Burack-Weiss was the recipient of two honors from the New York City Chapter of NASW: the Social Work in Aging Award and the Diego Lopez Award for outstanding services to people with AIDS.
