Paul Kevin Cavanagh
Adjunct Assistant Professor

Paul Kevin Cavanagh has taught at the Columbia University School of Social Work (CUSSW) since 1996. He has taught the Introductory Research class since 1996 and Program Evaluation, Macro-Practice and Program Planning and Development.

Mr. Cavanagh received his M.S.W. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1991 with a concentration in Planning, Administration and Research. For most of his professional life Mr. Cavanagh has worked with individuals with a diagnosis of a developmental disability and with their families. For eight years he worked at the Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI) on Long Island, first as the Coordinator of Family Support Services and then as the Director of their Nassau Adult Day Treatment Center. Following his work at DDI Mr. Cavanagh worked for three years as the Advocacy Coordinator for the NYS Association for the Help of Retarded Children in Manhattan. Most recently, from 1996 until the summer of 2001, Mr. Cavanagh was the Executive Director of the Vincentian Service Corps—an AmeriCorps affiliate—based at St. John's University in Queens.

Mr. Cavanagh is a doctoral candidate here at the CUSSW, focusing on policy analysis. He is completing his doctoral dissertation in the area of examining the economic impact for families in raising a child with a severe developmental disability.
