Kelly Taber Chasse
Adjunct Lecturer

Kelly Taber Chasse is teaching Human Behavior in Social Environment at the Columbia University School of Social Work (CUSSW).

She received her M.S.W. in 1997 from Simmons College, in Boston, Massachusetts. Since earning her M.S.W., she has worked as a psychiatric social worker on an inpatient adolescent unit at The Emma Pendelton Bradley Hospital, in Rhode Island. Her practice included individual, family, and group therapy with culturally diverse adolescents and families in crisis. In addition to therapy, this work included consultation to community service agencies and school systems to coordinate patient care, and strong patient advocacy. Professor Chasse also served as field instructor to social work student interns in field placement, as well as supervisor to social work colleagues.

Professor Chasse is a co-investigator with Dr. Grace Christ, on a collaborative program with FDNY. This includes a longitudinal research study examining the effects of the 9/11 attack on the families of the New York City Fire Department who lost a spouse/parent firefighter at the World Trade Center. She is also working with Dr. Mary McKay on issues of informed consent with African American pre-adolescents and their mothers, as well as parent-child communication and peer pressure among African American youth. She is currently a doctoral candidate at CUSSW.
