Rudy Estrada teaches Family and Children's Services at the Columbia University School of Social Work. Mr. Estrada received his JD from the University of Wisconsin in 1994 and is a practicing attorney.

Mr. Estrada works at the Juvenile Rights Practice of The Legal Aid Society where he is an Assistant Attorney-in-Charge of the Brooklyn office. He has over 15 years experience working with children and adolescents in out-of-home care in a variety of capacities. Before joining the Legal Aid Society, Mr. Estrada worked at the NYC Administration for Children’s Services as the first-ever LGBTQ Coordinator, developing policies and training to better support and protect LGBTQ youth in the New York City foster care system. He has published a book and several articles on the subject of LGBTQ youth in out-of-home care. He is particularly interested in the intersection of child welfare law and policy and the civil rights of young people in care.
