Henry
Ilian
Adjunct Assistant Professor
Since 1987, Henry Ilian has been involved with research and
evaluation (including 12 years as Director of Research and
Evaluation) at the New York City Administration for Children¹s
Services (ACS), James Satterwhite Academy for Child Welfare
Training. ACS is the New York City child welfare agency and
the Satterwhite Academy is its training arm. Working with
a small staff, and in collaboration with others from the Satterwhite
Academy, he has conducted evaluations of training effectiveness
and training needs assessments and has developed tests for
a variety of courses offered by the Satterwhite Academy. His
professional interests include morale and staff retention
in social service settings and competencies needed by child
welfare workers. Also, since 1991, he has taught research
at CUSSW, where he completed his doctoral degree in 1987.
His dissertation was a linguistic analysis of psychotherapy
discourse.
Prior to entering the doctoral program, he worked as a psychotherapist
at the CAM Community Mental Health center on the West Side
of Chicago. He holds an M.S.W degree (1978) from George Williams
College, now part of Aurora University, Aurora IL. He grew
up in New York City and attended the City College of New York,
(CCNY), where he majored in art history.
