Leslie M. Pereira
Adjunct Assistant Professor

Leslie Pereira teaches Foundations of Social Work Practice at the Columbia University School of Social Work, and taught Human Behavior in the Social Environment I & II in 1999-2000, as well as teaching Social Work Research in 1999. Dr. Pereira received her MSW from Boston College in 1992 and received her Ph.D. in Social Work from Columbia University in 2001. She was a recipient of the Jewish Women's Educational Foundation Dissertation Grant and the National Institute of Mental Health Research Trainee Grant.

Dr. Pereira has worked in the field of Women’s Health helping women and couples to face concerns related to infertility, HIV/AIDS, sexual trauma, complicated pregnancy, and other issues pertaining to reproductive health and development. She has provided consultation and training to medical staff and health providers on domestic violence, addressing abuse, and the psychosocial dynamics of Women’s Health concerns. Dr. Pereira has also worked with adults as an outpatient therapist in a community mental health setting where she specialized in working with adult survivors of sexual trauma.

Dr. Pereira is the former director of Project Connect, a federally funded HIV prevention intervention geared toward women and couples at risk for HIV in the Bronx. Most recently, Dr. Pereira served as Clinical Supervisor for A Common Ground, an organization established to provide mental health services and support to union members and their families facing the ongoing impact of the events of 9/11.

Dr. Pereira maintains a private psychotherapy practice in Manhattan.
