Richard Johnson teaches courses in Clinical Practice at the Columbia
University School of Social Work
(CUSSW). Dr. Johnson received his B.A. from Yale University, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Columbia
University.
Dr. Johnson has had 20 years of experience as a social worker, supervisor, division director and executive in
residential treatment, foster care, adoption, and day care services. He is a 1993 graduate of the Ackerman Family
Institute, where he was also founder and the first director of the Kinship Project, a consultation and staff
training service designed to bring the skills of family therapy to bear in work with kinship foster families. Dr.
Johnson is currently Division Director for Community-Based Residential Services at the Jewish Child Care
Association of New York. He has a part-time private practice with couples and families.
