Diane Mirabito, Adjunct Assistant Professor

Diane Mirabito has taught Normal and Abnormal Aspects of Adolescence at the Columbia University School of Social Work (CUSSW) since 1997, and the Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI) for the past year. She received a DSW from Hunter College School of Social Work in June 2000. She received an M.A. from the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration in 1977, and completed post-graduate training in Family Therapy at the Institute for Juvenile Research in 1984.

Since earning her Masters in Social Work, Dr. Mirabito has had professional experience as a clinician, supervisor, administrator, program developer, field instructor, and field advisor in hospital, school, and agency settings.

For the past twelve years, Dr. Mirabito has been employed as a clinician and field instructor at the Adolescent Health Center of Mount Sinai Hospital and for the past nine years, as an adjunct faculty Field Advisor at Columbia University School of Social Work. Her areas of practice expertise include: individual, family, and group treatment with adolescents; short-term treatment with adolescents; program development in school and agency settings; and clinical supervision. She is co-chair of a practice-based research Committee at the Adolescent Health Center with research interests in risk and resiliency among adolescents and adolescents’ utilization of and termination from mental health services. Dr. Mirabito is a clinical supervisor and consultant on group work practice at the Association to Benefit Children, a community-based agency, and she maintains a private practice.
