Kanako Okuda is a licensed clinical social worker currently practicing as a pediatric senior medical social worker at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. She specializes in the areas of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, Blood and Marrow Transplantation. She coordinates the internship program between Columbia University School of Social Work and Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. Okuda has been actively involved with social work education having served as both an education coordinator and field instructor. Additionally, she has held lectures and workshops addressing multicultural practice in the United States.

In her early career, Okuda worked with multi-stressed families in the child welfare system in New York City, as well as Japanese-speaking children and their family through New York City Department of Education to address cultural and language barriers. As the Volunteer Coordinator, she serves t he Collective for Orphan Care and Education (COCE), an non-governmental organization that promotes community-driven strength to increase education, vocational training, housing and therapeutic care for HIV/AIDS orphans and displaced children in Busia District of Western Kenya.

Okuda received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Social Work from Lehman College, City University of New York, her Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University School of Social Work, and her Post-Master’s Certificate in Palliative and End-of-Life Care from Silver School of Social Work.
