Dr. Beatrice Plasse is teaching Comparative
Group Approaches at the Columbia University School
of Social Work (CUSSW). She holds a doctorate in social work
from Hunter College and a masters in social work from Columbia
University. In 2001 Dr. Plasse was Visiting Assist. Professor
at Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service where
she taught courses in generalist practice, social welfare
policy, advanced clinical practice and was a faculty advisor.
Dr. Plasse has specialized in group work with homeless women
and addicted parents. In 1998 she received a distinguished
service award from the Bayley Seton Hospital Amethyst House
for her group work with addicted mothers. She has served as
mental health coordinator at the VIP Community Services Agency
in the Bronx. Since 1993 Dr. Plasse has been a psychotherapist
with Park East Psychological Services of New York specializing
in adult and child therapy. Her articles on group work and
addiction have been published in the journals Social Work,
Social Work with Groups, The Journal of Poetry Therapy and
Reflections, Narratives of Professional Helping. She has contributed
a new chapter on group work with addicted parents which will
appear in the forthcoming text Mutual Aid Groups, Vulnerable
Populations and the Life Cycle. (Eds. A. Gitterman & L.
Shulman). In June 2002 Dr. Plasse was elected to the board
of the New York City chapter of NASW.
