Dr. Vanessa Rojas received her BA from Providence College, her MSW from Smith College School for Social Work, her PhD from Columbia University School for Social Work (CUSSW), and completed a Post Doctoral Fellowship in Psychiatric Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health and Medical School.
She has worked with street children both in the US and Bolivia, worked as an independent living/outreach specialist with cognitively and physically challenged adults, and worked several years in community mental health centers and hospitals where she provided case management and psychotherapy to children and adults individually, as well as to groups, families and couples.
Dr. Rojas was a Teaching Assistant for the course Life Histories and Narratives at CUSSW. As of fall 2006, she will be teaching Foundations of Social Work Practice at CUSSW and Assessment and Diagnosis of Mental Disorders at Adelphi University School for Social Work as an Adjunct Assistant Professor.
Her research interests are clinical practice, interpersonal violence, substance abuse, HIV risk factors, and multicultural issues. While a PhD student at CUSSW, she was a Council on Social Work Education Minority Research Fellow, funded by the National Institute of Mental health. Dr. Rojas has presented her research at the Council on Social Work Education Annual Program Meeting, the College on Problems of Drug Dependence, and Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health - Mental Health Seminar Series.
