Elaine Walsh has taught the School-based and School-linked Services in Schools course at the Columbia University School of Social Work (CUSSW) since 2000. Dr. Walsh received her MSW and PhD from Fordham University School of Social Service. Prior to joining Hunter College, CUNY, she worked in the non-profit sector as an executive administrator and was responsible for programs focused on issues of domestic violence and elderly crime victims. She established the first program for ederly victims of crime and was successful in establishing a city wide network with the NYC Police Department and the NYC Department for the Aging contracted providers to respond to elderly victims of crime.

Currently Dr. Walsh is Associate Professor of Urban Affairs & Planning, and Director of the Graduate Program in Urban Affairs and the Public Service Scholar Program at Hunter College, CUNY. Her areas of teaching include: Non-Profit Management, Strategic Planning, Social Policy, Program Development and Leadership Development. She has been a Principal Investigator for a Federal Fipse Grant, and currently serves as Principal Investigator for a New York State Education Department Liberty Partnership Grant. She has been collaborating for over 10 years with an East Harlem middle school in providing universal social work services, tutoring, recreation, work readiness and college preparation for the students through their high school years. This collaboration includes Columbia University School of Social Work and the annual placement of 8-10 graduate students in a field unit. She has received numerous grants from foundations for work in leadership development. Her writings and research are in the areas of children and family, school-based/-linked services, immigrant youth, women and public service, and advocacy. Her consultant work includes Children's Rights Inc.

Dr. Walsh is a past President and Treasurer of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), NYC Chapter, former member of the National Board of NASW. She has served on non-profit boards and is currently a board member of Manhattan Community Board 8 and Treasurer of the Fund for the Advancement of Social Services as well as serves on numerous advisory boards.
