Elwin Wu
Adjunct Lecturer

Dr. Elwin Wu is teaching Social Work Research at the Columbia University School of Social Work (CUSSW). He received an M.S. in Social Work from CUSSW in 2000, a Ph.D. in Biology from Harvard University in 1997, and a B.S. in Biology from Case Western Reserve University in 1991.

Dr. Wu is a Research Scientist with the CUSSW Social Intervention Group (SIG), focusing on the overlapping problems of substance abuse and violence, prominent health issues among affected individuals (e.g., HIV, hepatitis C), their service utilization, and healthcare provision for these and other high-risk populations. Currently, his research examines intimate partner violence among drug-involved men and women; the parallel epidemics of hepatitis C and HIV; HIV and hepatitis C knowledge, testing, and medication adherence among individuals on methadone; and knowledge, attitudes, and barriers of service provision to individuals experiencing intimate partner violence.

Dr. Wu is also a clinician with London Terrace Psychotherapy Services. His direct practice includes addressing the mental health needs of clients primarily from the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered community, and intervention for perpetrators of partner violence in their same-sex relationships.
