Bio:

Since earning her MSW, Dr. Riedel has worked as a social worker with adolescents, women living with HIV/AIDS and their children, and persons who are chemically dependent. Over the past several years, Dr. Riedel has delivered lectures and staff trainings in various applications of harm reduction principles and has developed programs and trained staff in four Central Asian countries in motivational interviewing and other treatment readiness techniques.

Dr. Riedel also has extensive experience in intervention research. She is co-investigator of a NIDA funded project using motivational interviewing to help women and people of color living with HIV/AIDS decide if they should be screened for clinical trials. She is also collaborating on several other structured clinical interventions-- one, a multifamily group to reduce family violence and, another, a NIAAA funded research project testing the efficacy of a harm reduction intervention with HIV-positive and HIV-negative alcohol and drug-using mothers of adolescents. She works as a clinical consultant in a number of community-based organizations developing and evaluating programs, training and supervising staff, and writing intervention and staff development manuals.
