AARP. Social Security. Useful information and analysis from the well-known organization for older Americans.

The Social Security Administration. Official  Web site of the federal agency in charge of Social Security programs. Includes an extensive examination of the history of social security,  as well as a useful page with links to SSA program handbooks.

Levin-Epstein, J. Welfare, women, and health: The role of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. Issue Brief: An Update on Women's Health Policy. The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, April 2003.

US Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families: Office of Family Assistance. The federal office in charge of the TANF program. Site includes links to a number of pages outlining the program and explaining its details. In particular, see the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Final Rule--Executive Summary.

MEDICAID, MEDICARE & CHIP

The Children's Defense Fund. Information about CHIP and Medicaid.

US Department of Health and Human Services. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Formerly known as the Health Care Financing Administration, the CMS administers Medicare, Medicaid, and the State Children's Health Insurance Program.

Families USA. A non-profit organization contributing to national health care policy, advocacy, and education, as well as serving as watchdog over government actions affecting health care.

The Medicare Rights Center. A non-profit organization advocating for health care for older adults and people with disabilities. Provides a telephone hotline to answer questions regarding Medicare or provide assistance in obtaining coverage. Includes education and publication programs to provide information and training to Medicare consumers and providers.

The New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. Founded in 1875, the NYSPCC is the world's oldest child protection agency. Web site includes descriptions of the Society's activities (supervised visitation program, court programs, etc.) information about its Correspondence Course in Identifying and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect, and instructions for obtaining various publications including the NYSPCC Professionals' Handbook on Identifying and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect.

New York State Social Services Act, Article 6, Title 6: Child Protective Services. New York State law concerning reporting of child abuse and neglect.

New York State Family Court Act, Article 10, Part I: Jurisdiction. Includes legal definitions of "child abuse" and "neglect", "person legally responsible", etc.

Prevent Child Abuse New York. The New York chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America, a child abuse prevention organization. Its About Child Abuse page discusses child abuse statistics, identification, reporting, and prevention.
