Federal Work Study Program
Funded in part by the federal government, this program compensates
students for work done in public and nonprofit agencies.
At the Columbia School of Social Work, this program works
uniquely in that students are compensated for service at
their field placement. Participants in this program receive
up to $4,410 annually and payment is issued to students
in bi-weekly installments.
In order to qualify, students must
be enrolled for at least 10 credits, including fieldwork,
and demonstrate financial need and eligibility according to
federal guidelines. The student's fieldwork agency must also
be a nonprofit organization offering no financial compensation
outside of the Federal Work Study Program. Due to federal
budget restrictions, awards are also based on the availability
of funding. The Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan is a prerequisite
to receive Federal Work Study.
