3. How to order software and hardware and how long it usually takes?
For staff, they may call the Office of Computing and Instructional Technologies to get a price quote. After they recieve the price quote, the individual department's head must approve the purchase and the purchase request must be within the department's
budget. Then, they will present the quote to Asgar along with their account number, and he will process the purchase order. The duration of the process varies in length.

How do I upgrade my computer?
The typical lifetime of a computer is appropriately 3-5 years.
At the end of the third year, faculty member who feels that
his/her computer no longer serves his/her research needs can
request an upgrade by contacting Ann
McCann Oakley. Then, the Office of Computing and Instructional
Technologies will assess the computer and will decide if the
computer needs more RAM, more hardware space, or a new computer
is required.

6. How
may I get help setting up my personal laptop so I can check
email at home?
Generally speaking, although we are not responsible for faculty's
personal laptops, we have said that if time and resources
permit, we would install the AcIS Network package on faculty's
laptops. We do this by appointment ONLY.
The laptop must be at least a Windows 95 computer and have
a working modem. If you laptop meets these requirment, we
can have a staff person call you to set-up an appointment
for you to bring in your laptop. If you are not sure what
operating system your laptop runs, please call our Help Desk
at 854-5123 to set-up a time to stop by with your laptop for
us to check your operating system.
Unfortunately, the Office of Computing and Instructional
Technologies does not have the resource to upgrade faculty's,
staff's, or administrator's personal computers if the laptops
do not meet these requirement. If you would like, we can recommend
names of students who, for an hourly fee, work on
faculty's
computers.
