Call for Papers
Perspectives on Social Work |
Submission Period: November 2 - December 31, 2009
Perspectives on Social Work is an electronic publication. First published in Spring 2003, PSW has the primary mission of providing opportunity to students to enhance scholarly skills in writing, editing, and exposure to the publication process.
Empirical, theoretical, and conceptual articles as well as book reviews are welcome. In order to be considered for publication in Perspectives on Social Work, all submissions must meet the following criteria:
- The author must be a currently enrolled doctoral social work student.
- Only original work will be considered. Editors will consider work that has been published elsewhere or is currently under consideration on a case by case basis as long as it is the student’s original work and has not been copyrighted elsewhere.
- Only electronic submissions are accepted. Submissions should be e-mailed as a Microsoft Word attachment to the following e-mail address:
journal@sw.uh.edu.
- Submissions for the featured articles should be 5 – 7 pages in length with not less than one-inch margins and 12-point font. Submissions for book reviews may be 2-4 double-spaced pages. Submissions must be double-spaced.
- If you plan to submit an empirical study with human subjects ensure there has been an IRB review and notate the approval in your paper.
- Submissions must meet APA guidelines (6th Edition) for text, tables, and references.
- Submissions will undergo a blind review process.

GIS 1.0 may be characterized as the development of the technological backbone for mapping. GIS 2.0 incorporates user interactions directly into these mapping platforms. This conference will explore GIS 3.0, in which a great range of social and geographical data can be employed in novel ways.

The Journal of Aging Studies is planning a special issue on "Age and the Cultivation of Place." The issue editors welcome scholarship about the intersection of living spaces and their inhabitants, with a focus upon age-related dimensions of this relation. Possible topics include, but are not limited to: practices and processes (residential decision-making, settling in, use and optimizations of space, leave taking, estrangement, migration, and privacy maintenance); physical settings (designs, features, arrangements, attributes, and amenities of environments that encourage attachment to place, or discourage it); and agents of cultivation (specialists, family members, and organizations that manage the fit of people and place across age). Contributions from the social, behavioral, and health sciences, architecture, planning and design are invited. The editors request a 1,000-word extended abstract by January 4, 2010. The Annual Conference of the Anxiety Disorders Association of America is designed to meet the educational needs of members and nonmember clinicians and researchers. Current data suggests that in any given year more than 40 million adults in the U.S. suffer from an anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorders are the most commonly diagnosed disorders in children. ADAA members are among the leading experts in the field of anxiety disorders. Many researchers identify the underlying mechanisms for these disorders and developing new treatment strategies as well as conduct research on effectiveness. The desired results for the meeting are that attendees learn the latest developments in preclinical and clinical research, translate this knowledge to clinicians, and develop new skills and techniques to improve diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of anxiety disorders.
Submissions are now open for individual oral presentations, symposia, workshops, and new research and case posters. Join more than 700 professionals in research and clinical care. Earn up to 30 CE and CME credits. Submissions are invited on any subject relevant to anxiety and anxiety-related disorders. Presenters are encouraged to consider, but not be limited by, the Conference theme. Presentations may address the needs of specific populations such as children, older adults, women, veterans, or other specific populations. The Program Committee invites proposals for both symposia and poster presentations. These presentations may either discuss recent research (published or unpublished) or synthesize findings already in the literature. The goals of the conference are to identify and disseminate research relevant to young children (birth to 8 years) and their families and to foster partnerships among researchers, practitioners, and policymakers. The conference focuses especially on research relevant to the low-income families who are Head Start's service population. As the third decade of Head Start research conferences beings, 45 years of Head Start contributions to the Nation and the world will be recognized. The theme of the 10th conference is sharing and using evidence for young children's learning and success across contexts, attention must be paid to nurturing environments that support children's growth in language, literacy, mathematics, science, social and emotional functioning, creative arts, physical skills, and approaches to learning. Call for Manuscripts: Evidence-Based Practices Book Series

Oxford University Press is requesting proposals for its new Evidence-Based Practices Series, edited by Professors David Biegel and Elizabeth Tracy. This series focuses on the synthesis of knowledge about evidence-based practices and service delivery initiatives whose effectiveness has been demonstrated by the strength of empirical evidence (i.e., extensiveness and quality of research) in various fields relevant to social work practice such as aging, child welfare, mental health, or substance abuse. Proposed volumes should be well-grounded theoretically and empirically, should advance existing knowledge in the field, and should be state-of-the-art works that fill existing gaps in the literature. Manuscript proposals should include information on the manuscript aims, scope, and general approach in light of this Call for Manuscripts as well as the intended audience and comparable volumes. JRP solicits articles that help to develop our understanding of research as a type of evolving practice. The journal promotes inquiry into how different ways of doing research or questioning its assumptions and results may improve it or inspire new research. The journal aims to facilitate research education and promote innovative and self-reflective forms of research in different fields. JRP is not a journal for reporting the results of specific research projects or the state of research in a specific discipline. Instead, it focuses on aspects of research practice that are of interest to researchers in different fields of inquiry. Authors are invited to write about their research experiences, reflecting critically upon the challenges they faced and ways they found (or suggest) for dealing with them. Every JRP article is expected to find readers in multiple fields of inquiry and trigger fresh thinking about some aspects of research practice and education. More Information.
