International Projects

Nazarbayev University and the Columbia University School of Social Work have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for academic collaboration. The MoU establishes a framework for the development of bilateral relations through the Global Health Research Center of Central Asia and opens up opportunities for developing a new generation of NU researchers and faculty meeting international standards, and facilitates transfer of advanced technologies of education and academic activities.

Awards and Appointments

Ada MuiAda Mui, professor at the Columbia University School of Social Work, is the 2010 recipient of the Task Force on Minority Issues in Gerontology Outstanding Mentorship Award. The annual award is given by the Gerontological Society of America (GSA), the nation’s largest interdisciplinary organization devoted to the field of aging. This distinguished honor is given to an individual who has exemplified outstanding commitment and dedication to mentoring minority researchers in the field of aging.

Assistant Professor Michelle Ballan has been selected to receive the 2010 AHEAD Recognition Award, one of the highest awards bestowed by the Association on Higher Education And Disability. The award recognizes outstanding contributions of individuals or groups who conduct work or research on campus to benefit students with disabilities. Dr. Ballan is the sole recipient of this year's award.
