Overview
A great part of your
experience as a first-year student at Columbia
University in the City of New York is learning to
be open to new situations and experiences. Your first room, roommate, and
residence hall in college will definitely be experiences that you will never
forget.
We know you are anxious to find out all of this information. In the upcoming months, you will be receiving an email from Columbia Housing with your housing assignment, roommate information (if applicable), and your dining meal plan confirmation. In the meantime, try to relax and enjoy your summer vacation. Before long, you will be thinking of the Illiad and late nights spent in Butler Library, and summer vacation will seem like a million miles away. If you want to explore before your packet arrives, here are some useful tools to help you assimilate to your new environment and your academic and social experiences at Columbia:

UNLOADING AREAS AND TRAFFIC INFORMATION: Movers and Orientation staff will be available to help with unloading. Please follow their directions. The movers will provide cardboard bins and dollies to assist in unloading and transporting belongings to students’ rooms. A maximum of two large bins (48”x24”x26”) will be issued to each resident. For more detailed traffic information and a list of area garages for parking, please visit the Arrival section of the Housing Guide for Incoming Students. WHAT TO BRING/WHAT NOT TO BRING: A list of suggested items is provided in the Information for Your Arrival booklet sent to students in the Student & Administrative Services mailing. Also provided is a list of items that are prohibited in the residence halls. Online versions of these lists are located at www.columbia.edu/cu/housing.
