SWEDISH PROGRAM EVENTS AT DEUTSCHES HAUS AT COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY
Since 1908 German cultural figures have presented their work at Deutsches Haus, the social and cultural program center for the Department of Germanic Languages. In recent years, such German celebrities have been followed on several evenings per semester by writers and other cultural figures of significance to friends of Sweden and to the Nordic community at large. These presentations -- including drama, literary readings, and social and political talks and forums -- serve as an essential supplement to the regular curriculum in the Swedish Program. Deutsches Haus is located at 420 W. 116th Street, near Amsterdam Avenue and one-half block from Hamilton Hall, which houses the Department of Germanic Languages.
