The Class of 2003 represents another solid recruiting year for the Columbia Lions. The eight swimmers and one diver should fill some of the holes in the line-up and provide some much needed depth. "We definitely shored up our weak events and added some insurance talent," noted Bolster. "This class will help us take a big step forward in our quest for another league championship".

At the head of the freshmen class will be Canadian senior national qualifier, Arpad Sebe. Sebe, a strong individual medley and breaststroke swimmer, has the talent to be one of the premier swimmers in the league. "We are excited to have someone of Arpad's ability," Bolster said. "He will have an immediate impact at both the dual and championship meet levels".

Not far behind Sebe will be junior national qualifiers, Adam Green and Julien Howe. Howe, from across the river in New Jersey, brings junior national exposure to the 100 yard backstroke event, but can also swim the 100 fly and 200 backstroke. "In events that we historically have been lacking in, Julien should provide us great versatility and depth," Bolster said.

"The most versatile swimmers in the class of 2003 is Paul Barnes," Bolster stated. The Light Blue will call upon Barnes to score valuable points in the 200 and 400 IM along with the backstroke and breast events.

One other junior national qualifier, Green, will join the freestyle ranks. A sprinter from Bozeman, Montana, Green is the Lions' first ever recruit from that state. He will have plenty of opportunities to find his niche. "I'm not sure whether Adam has much sprint training background," observed Bolster. "But with our sprinters he certainly will get the chance to see and train with some speed."

Another freestyler, Daniel Kim, will be looking to make a name for himself in the Class of 2003. Kim, who missed much of his senior season due to illness, will contribute in the 200 and 500 free and the 200 fly. "Daniel showed much promise during his junior year and if we can build on that I think he will be a threat in all three of his events," Bolster said.

Adrian Piergallini, Lawrence Lee and Andrew Ebenstein round out the swimmers in the class. All three show promise in the fly and free events, respectively, and could help the Light Blue this year. "Adrian, Lawrence and Andrew seem excited about their potential,'" Bolster said. "It will all be a matter of how fast they develop as to whether or not they can help this year".

The same can be said for the Lions' new diver, coach Gordon Spencer said. "With two top eight finalists already in place Josh Juffe should have plenty of time to develop".

"Development is certainly the key word when thinking about characterizing the Class of 2003," Bolster said. "We brought in some guys that will help us immediately, but in the long run we will need all eight of our swimmers and our one new diver to improve if this class is going to leave a mark on Columbia swimming".
