Lead Teaching Fellows
Funds are available
to PhD students in the Arts and Sciences to develop and present
teaching workshops or to bring in speakers on teaching related
topics.The request for proposals (RFP) is available below and
includes selection criteria and other information. Funds will
be awarded competitively from a $20,000 total pool of funds based
on quality of proposals.
Proposals will be accepted beginning August 15, 2007 through
October 1, 2007 to fund projects for 2007-08.
Preference will be given to proposals that clearly show a multidisciplinary
focus, i.e., workshops and speakers that will address questions
and issues for Teaching Fellows in two or more departments/disciplines.
Proposals that include GSAS Teaching Fellows and/or faculty as
speakers/presenters are especially encouraged.
Proposal budget should include a line item for your effort/time
to arrange and/or present the workshop. Budget may also include
expenses for materials, refreshments, and speaker fees.
Please e-mail Jan Allen (ja2310@columbia.edu) with any questions
or your intent to submit a proposal. Compiled questions and answers
will be shared with all who intend to submit a proposal.

- Name and e-mail address of
students proposing this project
Department/program(s) of students proposing this project
Other programs that will benefit from this project and names
of students who will help publicize project if they are not also
listed in (a) above as co-proposers
- Description of workshop/presentation:
Include title or topic, content, presenter(s)/speaker(s), format,
location, and other relevant information that will help us evaluate
your proposal the need for this workshop
- Workshop evaluation: How will
you determine the effectiveness of the workshop/event?
- Significance of the proposed
project: Briefly, how did you determine the need for this workshop
topic, how do you plan to most effectively address this need
and present a high quality workshop?
- Intended audience and if there
are limits on audience size, please explain
- Budget that includes relevant
line items: Student effort, presenter/speaker fee (if any), materials,
refreshments.
- A brief budget rationale,
i.e., explanation for each line item in the budget
