Tau Beta Pi is the premier engineering honors society in the United States.
The organization places a strong emphasis on character, integrity, and excellence in the engineering disciplines.
Over 540,000 members have been inducted since the association's inception in 1885.

The New York Alpha Chapter was founded in 1902, and is the 9th oldest in the country.

Famous members


Former Mayor Bloomberg and astronaut Buzz Aldrin are TBP members. Our own Prof. Mike Massimino (Mechanical Engineer, and former NASA astronaut) is a member as well.

Campus buildings


The names of some Columbia buildings is the same as the surnames of famous Columbia Tau Bates: Charles Frederick Chandler, Michael Idvorsky Pupin, Augustus Schermerhorn, and Harvey Seeley Mudd.
