The Crisis in Thailand:
What we can do now and how we can prepare for the future

The crisis in Thailand contains serious political, economic, and social challenges for all Thai people.  We are already seeing the signs of social unrest in Thai society brought about by pay cuts, massive layoffs, sharp price hikes, the increase of debts due to the Baht devaluation, and collapse of business and financial firms in the country.

As Thai citizens, we are concerned about the dangerous consequences which already have had great impacts on many Thai students studying abroad and Thai people in the business area.   Many do not know where or who to turn to when facing financial problems.

Targeted group:  We, THAI STUDENTS and PROFESSIONALS OVERSEAS, have roles to play in helping our country if we know the real needs and all the existing problems the country is facing.

The DISTINGUISHED GUEST SPEAKERS from HIGHER EDUCATION and GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES ARE INVITED TO GIVE US USEFUL INFORMATION about how Thailand as a nation deals with the crisis.   Also they will share with us RECOMMENDATION ON WHAT WE CAN DO TO IMPROVE THE SITUATION in Thailand while we are abroad.   The issue of the long-term needs of the country, such as HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT, will be addressed.   We believe that "THAI YOUTH TODAY IS THE FUTURE OF THE COUNTRY".     Therefore, all the issues related to students' interests will be discussed.

The format of the convention is designed to FACILITATE A FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE AND TO ENCOURAGE OPEN AND FRANK DISCUSSIONS.   We will conclude the end of the convention with THAI DINNER AND CELEBRATION OF "SONGKRAN" FESTIVAL in Yonker.    This involvement in Thai community activities will INCREASE CULTURAL APPRECIATION AND UNDERSTANDING AMONG THAI STUDENTS which will benefit in building a network or forum for communication and cooperation among Thai students and Thai community in the future.

The agenda of the convention has been well organized and we encourage you to read the agenda before coming to the convention so that you can get the idea of what you are going to experience while you are here.
