Professor Aronson has taught at New York University School of the Arts, University of Virginia, Cornell University, University of Delaware and City University of New York Graduate Center. He has chaired the Theatre Departments at University of Michigan and Hunter College, CUNY, and from 1991 - 1998 chaired Columbia School of the Arts' Division of Theare.
He is President of the History and Theory Commission of the Organisation Internationale des Scenographes, Architects, et Techniciens Theatre (OISTAT), a Fellow of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT), and a member of the Board of Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas (LMDA).
In 1991 Professor Aronson was President of the International Jury at the prestigious "Prague Quadrennial" international exhibition of set design and in 1995 he was the Producer of the United States Exhibition there.
He was Assistant Editor of The Drama Review, Associate Editor of Theatre Journal, Advisory Editor and Contributor to The International Encyclopedia of Theatre (St. James Press, 1991), and Editor of Theatre Design and Technology and of the First and Third Biennial Scenography Exposition Catalogs (USITT).

- History and Theory of Performance
- History and Theory of Design: This class explores the history of stage design and theatre architecure throughout the world. Theatre is a visual and spatial art. How do questions of imagery, shape, color, and spatial arrangement affect the production and perception of performance? How does the spectator understand the performance from a visual and physical point of view? How have technological developments from doors to computers shaped the creation of theatre?
