Mamay to Be Screened at Fort Lauderdale

The feature narrative film Mamay, directed by Oles Sanin, 2003 will be screened at Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival on Tuesday, March 23, 2010. The Fort Lauderdale Int'l Film Festival is presenting eighty three films for eighty nights around the world for eighty different countries. The organizers of the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival turned to the UFFCU for a recommendation of a recent Ukrainian film to be screened as part of the program. Without much hesitation the Club suggested the film by Oles Sanin which was Ukraine’s official entry for American Academy Awards consideration in the best foreign language film category for 2003.

It is by screening this same film that the Ukrainian Film Club of Columbia University announced its establishment in October 2004 as the unique permanent forum of Ukrainian national film in the United States. Soundly situated in the tradition of Ukrainian poetic cinema this art house film features a very unusual narrative technique, beautiful cinematography by Serhiy Mykhalchuk, and an innovative soundtrack composed by Alla Zahaikevych. Participation in the Fort Lauderdale IFF will bring a great and much overdue international exposure for this original and talented work.
