The British premier of Jerks. The Arabesques took place as part of the yearly Ukrainian Film Festival of the University of Cambridge. The Ukrainian Film Club of Columbia University was instrumental in bringing this independent film project to England. Once again the Club acted as a conduit between Ukrainian filmmakers and those in the West who would like to see their product. There were a good fifty such enthusiasts at the screening in Winstanley Theater of Cambridge’s Trinity College. The event was covered by Ms. Svitlana Pyrkalo, London-based reporter of the Ukrainian Broadcast Division of the BBC World Service, a Ukrainian prose writer of note. The UFCCU’s director Yuri Shevchuk took part in the post-screening discussion with Rory Finnin, director of the Cambridge Ukrainian Studies Program, who organized this as well as other previous film festivals. Both Cambridge University and Columbia Ukrainian Studies Programs plan to continue their efforts to bring Ukrainian films to the British viewers. Read >>>
