Films in the Making

Valentyn Vasianovych, needs money for two more days of shooting of his first full-length feature film provisionally entitled “A Chess Game” (Hra v shakhy). It is a comedy unfolding against the backdrop of the nuclear power catastrophe at Chernobyl. The film leading actor is Taras Denysenko, one of the finest Ukrainian film actors who also appeared in such films as Andriy Donchyk’s “Oxygen Defficiency”, Mykhailo Illienko’s “Foudzhou”. The trailer of the future film was shown at the Open Night Film Festival in Kyiv on June 21, 2009.

Mykhailo Illienko, after many years of futile attempts, succeeded in securing the financial support from the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture for his narrative feature film project entitled “One-Who-Went-Through-Fire” (Toishchoproishovkrizvohon). It is inspired by a true story of a Ukrainian pilot during WW2 who fought in the Soviet Air Force, was shot down by the Nazis, survived, was believed to be missing in action, managed to get to Canada and became a chieftain of an Indian tribe assuming the name of One-Who-Went-Through-Fire. Illienko showed the trailer at the Open Night Film Festival in Kyiv on June 21, 2009. He is in the initial staged of shooting the film.
