School Approval
The University Statutes give the individual schools the responsibility for the organizing curricular programs leading to new degrees, defining their requirements and approving the courses that fulfill those requirements. Each school relies upon a Committee on Instruction (CoI), or an equivalent faculty body, to ensure that its programs and the individual courses they include meet its standards of quality and contribute to its educational mission. In addition to the approval of by the CoI, or an equivalent, of the school or college within Columbia in which it will be offered, a new joint degree program needs the approval of the dean of the school and must have all necessary approvals from the partner institution before it can be submitted for central University review.
