SPECIAL STATUS DEFINITIONS

In addition to women, including those who are non-minorities, the following have special status under equal opportunity and affirmative action regulations as members of classes protected from discrimination by federal law:

Minority:  Any person having racial or ethnic origins in one of the following four categories:

Code  
 B = Black (not of Hispanic origin): A person having origins in any of the black
  racial groups of Africa.
   
 H = Hispanic: A person of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central or South
  American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race.
   
 A/PI = Asian or Pacific Islander: A person having origins in any of the original
  peoples of East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Islands.
   
 AI/AN = American Indian or Alaskan Native: A person having origins in any of the
  original peoples of North America, and who maintains cultural identification
  through tribal affiliation or community recognition.

All other persons are non-minorities.
