Faculty Handbook

The Faculty Handbook has been prepared by the Office of the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Administration to provide essential information about the policies that govern aspects of academic life, such as academic freedom, appointment and promotion, leaves, and other important policies relevant to officers of instruction and research.

For current faculty, the Faculty Handbook will rehearse familiar material. However, situations and policies change and different sections of the handbook will become relevant at different times in a faculty member’s career. Subjects ranging from first appointment to retirement are all discussed here in some detail; as a result, the Faculty Handbook should be considered a vital reference for policies, procedures, and regulations at all times.

For new faculty members, the need for information is more immediate, especially with regard to matters surrounding classroom instruction and promotion. New faculty are encouraged to pay special attention to the sections on faculty obligations and responsibilities, appointment and promotion, and leaves of absence.
