Faculty/Student Interaction Dinner

The purpose of the Faculty/Student Interaction Dinner program is to facilitate informal communication between full-time faculty members and undergraduate students. Faculty members holding a full-time appointment at the rank of Lecturer in Language, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor are eligible to host a meal. In order to achieve the goal of fostering informal relationships, the maximum number of students that can be hosted at any meal is 15; the majority of the students attending must be undergraduates. These meals may take place at either the faculty member’s home or at an on-campus site (found by the faculty member). In addition, one of our most popular choices is the lunch buffet at Faculty House. Faculty House is newly renovated and will be reopening for the Fall 2009 semester. Unfortunately, they are offering the buffet at lunch only; there will no longer be a dinner buffet. If you are interested in hosting your meal at Faculty House, we strongly urge you to choose a date and get your request to us as early as possible in the semester to make sure you get your desired date.

We generally begin accepting requests to schedule meals two weeks after the beginning of each semester.

A faculty member wishing to schedule a lunch or dinner should complete the FSID Order Form and the Attendee List Form. These should be returned to either Qamar Said or Audrey Rosenblatt at 105 Low Library. In order to accommodate the growing number of faculty members who are hosting meals, the forms must be returned to us at least 5 business days before your meal. Please note that meals are not permitted during the last week of classes, the reading period or finals week.  The last possible date to host a meal for the Fall 2009 semester is December 7, 2009.

Please note: We cannot reimburse you for meals arranged independently. Nor can we add restaurants once the semester has begun. If you have a restaurant that you would like to suggest for inclusion, please forward us a copy of the menu and we will consider the establishment for inclusion in the program in the future.

Faculty House: There is no advance menu selection for Faculty House; the group will be served from the buffet for the day. The buffet consists of a variety of soups, salads, cheeses, hot entrées, a carving station, and desserts. Special dietary requests can be accommodated if known forty-eight hours in advance. The Faculty House buffet is available Monday through Friday from 12-2 p.m. You must submit your request to us five days in advance in order to secure the date you want.

Your input and participation is very important. Please feel free to contact Audrey Rosenblatt, Associate Director of Budget Operations, at audrey@columbia.edu or at (212) 854-6108 with any questions, comments or concerns you might have.
