APAC Event
In honor of Earth Week, APAC's Green Dragon presents:
Lessons from Chinese Cultural Tradition for Environmental Sustainability
Professor Hong Jiang from the University of Manoa will explore the Chinese cultural tradition of heaven-man-earth relationships stemming from Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism, and examine how these relationships found expressions in traditional spatial practices such as the design of dwellings and palaces, fengshui principles, and elements of the Chinese garden. She will then discuss how the Chinese cultural resources may help address contemporary environmental crisis both in China and the world.
Professor Hong Jiang received her PhD of Geography from Clark University and is now teaching at the University of Hawaii. Her research focuses on environment and development issues in China, linking them with cultural change, attitudes toward nature, and ideologies of the environment.
