The Second Annual Weatherhead East Asian Institute China Symposium
"Feeding the Giant: The Domestic and Global Impact of China's Energy Needs"
April 21, 2006

The Columbia Center for Chinese Economy and Society at the Weatherhead East Asian Institute, along with our co-sponsors at the Harriman Institute, and the Center for Energy, Marine Transportation and Public Policy held the Second Annual China Symposium on April 21, 2006.

China's burgeoning economy has created increasing demand for reliable supplies of energy and is affecting the security, policies, economy, and environment of the East Asian region and the world. During this year's full-day China Symposium, part of the ongoing programming of the Columbia Center for Chinese Economy and Society, renowned scholars, policymakers, and members of the business community examined the consequences of China's quest for energy.

The symposium featured four panel discussions highlighting China's energy policy, international security, the domestic impact of China's energy crisis, and the economics that are impacting both the region and the global marketplace. The goal of the symposium was present the most current and useful scholarship on China's energy issues to an audience of interested scholars, students, business professionals, and community members.
