Application Instructions and Guidelines for WEAI Fellowships and Grants

Instructions

1. Carefully read the descriptions of the fellowships and grants and more detailed information to determine which awards you are eligible to apply for and what application materials are required.

2. Complete and gather the following documents:

If required, internship confirmation letters from the host organization. Only original or faxed letters will be accepted. No emails, please.

3. Place all materials in a large envelope or file folder. Materials should not have staples or paper clips.

4. Submit the hard copy application materials in person or by mail to:

Guidelines

1. Application for multiple grants and fellowships is allowed.

2. Fellowship and grant recipients must be current Columbia University students during the term of the funded project.

3. One set of transcripts and reference letters may be submitted for application to multiple grants and fellowships (Exception: Applications for FLAS, as they are submitted separately, must include a complete set of application materials).

4. Application materials will not be returned.

5. Only the application materials requested for each fellowship and grant will be reviewed.

6. Application materials received after the deadline will not be considered.

7. A committee of Weatherhead East Asian Institute faculty members makes all fellowship and grant determinations.

8. Fellowship and grant awards will be announced as soon as possible, and no later than the end of April following the application deadline.

9. Students who receive an award will be required to submit a one to two page summary of their supported project activities by the end of the grant period.

10. Grantees agree to Comply with Columbia University’s policies on human subject research, if applicable. Information can be found here.

11. Grantees must report to the Weatherhead East Asian Institute any additional funds, such as another grant, they receive in support of the same activities.
