Duncan McCargo Elected 2013 – 2015 President of EuroSEAS

On July 5, 2013, at the seventh EuroSEAS Conference in Lisbon, Portugal, Duncan McCargo was elected the 2013 – 2015 president of the European Association for Southeast Asian Studies. EuroSEAS is the world’s largest Southeast Asian studies association, and the 2013 conference attracted more than 600 participants. Professor McCargo was also this year’s keynote speaker. The next conference will be held in Vienna, Austria, in 2015.

Professor McCargo is Professor of Southeast Asian Politics at the University of Leeds and a WEAI Senior Research Associate. His research interests include Thai politics, comparative politics of Southeast Asia, the political role of media, and the politics of justice. He has lived in Singapore and Thailand, taught in Cambodia and Japan, and published on Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. Professor McCargo holds a Leverhulme Trust Major Research Fellowship until October 2014 and is writing his Leverhulme research at Columbia.
