Guest Conducting
The Columbia Wind Ensemble - Teachers College Conducting Partnership
About the Partnership
Every semester, the Columbia University Wind Ensemble selects one qualified Teachers College student to participate in the Conducting Partnership. Each participant serves as a guest conductor of the Columbia Wind Ensemble over a six-week (half-semester) period. The Guest conductor rehearses one piece with the ensemble at regular rehearsals, culminating in a live concert performance of that piece.
The participants conduct music chosen by the music director, in consultation with the participants. Past repertoire includes works by Holst, Grainger, Ticheli, Shostakovich, Vaughan Williams, Nelson, Copland, Sousa, Persichetti, Bernstein, and many more.
Each participant also plays his or her major instrument in the ensemble for the full duration of the semester.
Optional Teachers College credit (1) is available.
