Experiments:

The experiment schedule is being developed, here is a partial list:

Mealworms: A Study of Animal Behavior
Leaders: Georgina Cullman and Kristin Tremain

In nature, mealworms are natural decomposers and are typically found under leaf litter or in old logs. Do you think the mealworms will spend most of their time in the light or in the dark?

Exploring the Rock Cycle
Leaders: Elizabeth Pierce, Danielle Stroup, Steven Breazzano, Trevor Sherwood)

Learn about how the different types of rock in the Earth form, first by making our owns "rocks", and then looking at rocks collected from around the world!

Global Warming Tag
Leaders: Emmi Yonekura, Anna Foster Meha Jain

Play a game of tag and learn about how thermal and solar radiation interact with greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere.

M&M Color
Leaders: Teresa Jacques, Dan Griffith, and Adel Elsohly

Super Slimy Polymers
Leaders: Victoria Laundry, Jackie Catalano, Laura Wingler, Kristy Tran, Dan Treitler, and Sharon Lee

Learn what polymers are and make some of your own in this slimy experiment.

Liquid Crystals
Leaders: Sarah Gallagher, Noah Tremblay, and Jeff Meisner

Make your own liquid crystal thermometer.

What do you Have in Common With a Kiwi?
Leaders: Lynn Biderman and Christina Priest

We will be isolating DNA from a kiwi fruit using household materials and learning about DNA, an amazing molecule that contains the code to building a kiwi fruit, a person, and all life on this planet.

Fun Fractals
Leaders: Marlin Halim, Brenda Robenstein, and Jeff Chang

Discover and name your own fractal (a shape that looks the same no matter how close you zoom in on it!).

Brain Exploration: The Stroop Experiment
Leaders: Jen Silvers, Christina Doyle, Lauren Aguilar, and Elizabeth Leininger

Your brain constantly makes decisions about what to pay attention to and what to ignore, but what happens when your brain tries to ignore something it usually pays attention to? After an initial experiment demonstrating how your brain responds to conflicting signals, we will design more experiments to figure out which features of the original signals are teasing your brain.

Bridge to Candibithia
